KNUBIX Technology Storage and Energy Management Systems

Most commonly used is a solar powered energy system equipped with batteries for energy storage and a connection to a back-up source. Such a back-up source could be a grid connection or a generator. KNUBIX, one of Victron Energy’s partners, developed a powerful system named KNUT, to manage and monitor the complete energy-flows. The KNUT energy storage system is compact, robust and has a reliability of almost 100 percent. It’s integrated into the house-installation and enables residents to maximise their self-consumption. Due to the monitoring device, they know exactly which energy source is being used. Real-time system information is being displayed in easy-to-read graphics and is accessible via a web browser on smartphone, tablet or PC. Instantly it is visible if the connected loads are powered with energy coming from the solar panels, the batteries or a back-up source.

During the day, the energy generated via the solar panels can be used directly. If there is no one at home however, it can be stored and used at a later point, for example in the evening. Another main advantage of KNUT is that the premium system 3.3 also can function as a UPS. Due to the usage of a Victron Energy MultiPlus, KNUT is able to take over the energy supply within milliseconds in case of a grid failure. This happens so fast (less than 20 milliseconds) that computers and other electronic equipment like elevators will continue to operate without disruption. KNUT optimises energy consumption and energy supply, automatically and reliable.
